Fresh Summer Looks

Thanks to Walgreens for underwriting this post. I was paid as a member of the Clever Girls Collective, but the content is all mine. Visit http://www.discoverbeautywithin.com/

As seasons change, so should our beauty routines. Summer is here and it's time to adapt our beauty regime. I'm sharing several head-to-toe changes I make when combating the heat and humidity of those hot, summer days. All of these affordable items can be purchased at your local drug store, like Walgreens.

Sitting on your countertop or in your bathroom drawer should be the following summer arsenal.

Hair Care

Control frizz during the most humid summer days with Nexxus Frizz Defy Conditioner. Nexxus has an entire product line of Frizz-Control products that can be combined with this conditioner including shampoos and hairsprays. If it's an all-day beach-day for you, apply this conditioner to your hair and leave it in. It's light enough to not weigh hair down, and it can act as a great mock heat treatment.

I know people have been raving about this new hairbrush from Goody and I intend to check it out but I'll have to share the hype with you first because it just looks so cool. The Goody QUIK STYLE Paddle Brush imbeds microfiber material between the bristles to help remove water by 30%, cutting your styling-time! Not into brushes? Goody has also designed a QUIK STYLE Comb, wicking away 20% of the water in your hair. Now, you've got more time enjoying fun in the sun, while looking good with great hair.

Skin Care
Our skin takes a beating during the summer months. Sun exposure and dripping perspiration on our brow doesn't do much to promote a clean foundation for clear skin. It's especially important to change your skin care routine with the changing seasons. Just like you wouldn't wear a winter jacket to the beach, it's time to put away some daily stand-by products, just for the summer. One of those products is your face moisturizer. Even the driest of skin tends to be a little oily during the summer. Replace your moisturizer with a toner, instead. A toner will keep your skin clean and your pores small and feeling great. So, shelve the moisturizer just like you would that winter coat!

Sun Care
Do we really need to discuss this? Wear sunscreen, ALWAYS! If it's on your face, go oil-free and no less than 15 SPF. If it's on your body, I tend to go no less than 40 SPF, especially on my shoulders! And, be sure to choose makeup that does double-duty, with an SPF built right-in. And don't forget those lips; use a lip balm with a built-in SPF (I love Burt's Bees). There's been some talk that the spray sunscreens are ineffective in covering the skin area properly. But, if it's the only way to get your wriggling 2-year old to get some sun protection, then so be it. Something is better than nothing when it comes to blocking those harmful rays. My favorite sun care products come from Neutrogena.

Beauty Care
I only have one piece of advice to share in this area and it has been a lifesaver to me! During the summer, the heat and humidity join forces with my mascara and together they do their best to make me look like a raccoon by mid-afternoon. They usually succeed and there's nothing I've tried, including waterproof varieties, that has made any retaliation against their efforts. I was losing this battle until I discovered COVERGIRL's Professional Natural Lash Mascara. It's a clear mascara so even if it wants to do battle with me, no one will see it's attempts! My eyelashes are already dark so I don't really need the color. This mascara lengthens and separates my eyelashes and I'm really happy with it's results. So, if you're looking like a raccoon by mid-day, I'd give this mascara a try and see if it helps!

Nail Care

Let's not forget our hands and feet and nails this summer (I told you it would be from head-to-toe). My go-to brand for this kind of thing is Sally Hansen. Tanned legs can be achieved without the sun with their spray on tanner, and at-home pedicures and manicures are easier on the wallet. Sally Hansen knows their stuff. And, be sure to treat yourself to some wild colored nail polish. You're allowed to go out-of-the-box during those carefree, summertime days, you know.

Have fun, stay cool, and have a beautiful summer, friends!
